Synopsis:
H.G.F. asks A.P.W. his contemporary at old Garrelds, to introduce the bearer, Mr. Bruce to his acquaintance. Mr. B's good character: a long friendship. A.P.W.'s brother, the clergyman, said A.P.W. was in Bengal. Fortunes not easily obtained there since Lord Cornwallis (became Governer-gereral) A.P.W. was still in the Navy, unlucky over promotion prospects, badly off while peace lasted. Brother James well settled with prominent attorney in Berkshire.
