Synopsis:
No hint of Mr. Roope quitting C.Hayne's house in Dartmouth. S.S. & family preferred to go to Mt. Boone as it was, need to stop the rat's holes, whitewash & clean the paint. Intended alterations could be done any time, or go to Little Dartmouth. Maria promised to write a dutiful submissive letter to JS; very angry with SS for what she had told JS. She also blamed JHS. SS told JS what she had heard from her sister & Dolly. Maria looked very ill, she eats very little - Mr. Grant had received JS's letter. C.Hayne would return in a week. SS's sister would speak about Smith. Little boys home, holidays.
