A Dittisham Boy’s Story

A Dittisham Boy’s Story
By Ewart Hutchings
19thC 20thC

The Hutchings were very much a Dittisham family. The 1891 census shows four separate branches of the family living in the village. Ewart Hutchings was born in 1894, the youngest of seven children; the book provides a vivid first-hand account of a Devon way of life that has now disappeared, as seen through the eyes of a young boy. But as with so many of his generation, Ewart soon found himself fighting the German army in France, of which he provides a graphic description. Later in life he returned to Devon and wrote this book for his grandchildren.
