Sorry not to hear from Mr. G. Steward sent JS a draft of resolution of Townstall parish.respecting an intended Poor House : a good plan. JS told Mr. Pinson that the Governor should get the required price for a full lease from the Corporation. The Trustees named should choose a committee of a Treasurer & 2 others to oversee the work & later the furnishing & any necessary deviation to be estimated by 2 people & possibly a third to avoid abuse by the contractor. JS inspected the large Mary-le-bone work house. A good director was most important; The success or failure depended on this. JS suggested that Mr. G. should be an inspector & treasurer.

JHS at Exeter 10-15 Jan. with Coffin & Elliott. Recommended Bastard to them; he was quite likely to succeed. Baring lost friends due to duplicity. Buller had little chance of support from Ilbert & Kitson. JHS called at St. Sidwells the day they lost little boy. JHS marooned by snow, after which he hoped to meet JS at Bath. Nothing could be done in Parliament if Fox continued to oppose except through back stairs etc. Pitt at disadvantage. Erskine great. J.H.S. received express from powerful friend in London. Request for JS to enquire about seats in Parliament, but not to mention JHS. Copy of Dartmouth charter sent by Frank to London. Sir T. Carew had promised JS his interest in Dartmouth.

At 4pm 18 January 1784 Death of Daughter. John's cough very bad, but not dangerous says Dr. Glass. Elizabeth F. less agitated than expected. Hopes to come to London that week.

Mr. Echelas angry at Fox's working in Rookery. Accident to Rope Walk Wall - probably due to frost. Mason ordered to repair it.

JS pleased if ME or Mr. Holdsworth employed (Fox) Letter from Eanes about accident to wall. Unlike JK's opinion said to be badly built. If so it required new builder. Wine & Claret etc. needed.
