Thanks for £50 bill. AMS poorly, glad JS & family were well. & little Robert recovered. AMS's apothecary ill, so consulting Dr. Oke. Previous week AMS & John in carriage over taken & knocked Into ditch by Mabel Perrings coach with novice driver & Mrs. Manning, Mrs. Catsford & Mrs. P.inside. William's horse broke loose leaving W. on saddle on side of ditch. No one hurt. They went to Mr. Gundrys, had hartshorn & water. then taken to Franklyn in Mr. P's carriage. Mr. P. begged to pay expenses, carriage mended. C.Fanshawe in Town attending sessions. John with Robert Fanshawe for week of holidays, back at school on Monday. AMS took him to Chudleigh. Charlotte sent for but she had chilblains. Mrs. Fowner's said.

Mr.Pitt put off hearing of petitions that year such as that of Dartmouth. Harry Dundas' motion to abolish the Slave Trade in 1800, too long to continue an infamous trade. C. Haynes's vigour increases. Committee likely to be very tedious. Request of Ougier & Newman would be attended to that Thursday on Newfoundland.

Thanks for information. JS tired of suspense; deep in mud & mortar. He hoped that Sir FLR would attend to the Dartmouth delegates of commerce. C.Hayne a novice in Town needed watching. FLR's friend for the County much cut up, too adventurous; JS told him hardship of being turned over constantly. FLR's servant to request Reu to forward JS's letters by penny post.

Mounte Boone & the Seale family tree with the descent from Robert S. & his ancestor Richard S., bard of the Battle of Cherry Chase - described. (No evidence of this or of Robert settling in Jersey) Robert's arms described. (JS was descended from the brother of Thomas S. who married Anne de Carteret not from that Thomas as stated by JS) Hayne of Fuge & Lupton, Fownes of Nethway, Rogers of Blachford & Fanshawe. A 'triplet' of the Balad of Cherry Chase quoted.

Mr. Dillon believed he was going to Town. Not certain that France would declare war with Germany. Letter to French boy from home stating France was beaten. Tippac defeated more than once with great loss. French ship loaded with ammunition & disguised as a ??????

Just back from Chudleigh having taken Kitty on her way home. Great concern of news of Charlotte. AMS hoped Sarah S would bring her (to Franklyn) & meet the children. Sall Mead took Godbolds medicine. AMS was better, some Luscombes medicine beneficial. Mr. Fanshawe & Kitty came the previous Friday in the Bath stage coach. Kitty left Maria & Harriet well. Maria had not quite lost a sty. Mrs. Walcot would be leaving Dartmouth, a great loss. AMS asked when the children would be in Exeter so she could send chairs. Mr. Fanshawe had gone to Coal house. (Arithmatical calculations by JS on the letter)

Thanks for invitation to Charlotte, but too much for her. JS supposed Mr. F(anshaw) was in the heat of business. JS unable to come but sent £200 for AMS & Mr. F. Account could be settled with AMS if she came to stay when the children were down. JS would send 2 horses to Newton to help with hills. Poor T.Full expected that evening or next day, had lost his trial. Mr. Fanshawe's bill drawn 7 days forward.

Corporation relinquiched their action against the Inhabitants for Town dues. Congratulation! JS hoped the season was agreeable at Sidmouth. Much storm & contrary winds for JS's captain preventing JS sailing round the coast. When ready Yacht at Mrs. Studay's service if needed.

Remiss in answering letter, very busy at school the previous fortnight. Bad account of Charlotte, hopeful of improvement in Mt. Boon air. Arrived at Exeter 10pm. previous Tuesday: taken to Franklyn that night from the London Inn by AMS's servant. Incessant rain since then prevented getting chip-hats in Exeter so AMS sent her servant with a note to Mrs. Hull. Hopeful of meeting part of the family at Newton -Receipts £100 for AMS, £100 for C.Fanshawe

Thanks for 2 bills of £100 each for AMS and Mrs. Fanshawe deeply engaged at the Sessions. Continuous rain since the children came. They were due to leave the next day with the agreeable Mrs. Johnson's help. Was Mt. Boone air too sharp for Charlotte? AMS offered to have her.
