Bridgman brought J.S.'s settlement so C.F. could certify Mrs. S's dower barred. 11 June leaving for London after new Chief Justice takes his seat. No prospect of promotion for C.F. so he looks forward to retirement. Health & spirits fairly good.

J.S. thanks C.F. for writing to Chalmers. Not shy about contents of settlement. Lord Kenyon had taken his seat on the King's Bench, appointing his brother Marshal of the Court. He had not heard yet of promotion to Mr. Justice Buller nor to Mr. Fanshawe. Assizes very late in 1788. Mrs. Seale much better. Hay harvest good. C.F's little boy had inflamed eyes. Was Baron de Wenzel coming to Plymouth & when?

Thanks for letter of 6 June & guitar book, but had a copy already. Trusted J.S. would get rid of headaches. Hoped Mrs.S. soon brought to bed. Mr. Fanshawe returned previous Thursday well. Sessions put off till after assizes. Capt & Mrs.Fanshawe coming the next week. Mr.Justice Fortescue purchased the Collectorship of Customs at Exeter, gave £2500 to Mr. Charter. Good wishes for races. Buckland still advertised.

Thanks for £20 bills. Mrs. Fanshawe & 3 daughters staying with A.M.S. Capt. F. expected, but filling vacancy of 3 aldermen at Plymouth. Glad (Sarah) S. was better. Sir George Baker's receipt good for eyes. Col.Berkly's recommended cold water - Rain had been much needed, but A.M.S. etc. were caught in it 24 June when at Nutwell & Exmouth. A.M.S's old friend Mrs. Baker had died.

R.B.P.had interview with Mr. Gennys, little success. Mr. G. hoped J.S. could complete his purchase even if not paid by Christmas. Mr. Lewis said Mr. Vivian had paid Mr. Harris. R.B.P. had written to Mr. Babb. Mr. Farwele of Totnes enquired about missing deeds relating to Mr. Wolston Tille, especially a deed of Release of 1747. R.B.P. took memorandums of J.S's houses in Plympton. He ordered late occupier of orchard to repair gate & fence.

J.S. sorry Franklyn had been a sick house. Mr. J.(master J.Fanshawe?) would have liked to have had his cousin & other school fellows with him for the holidays. Not yet seen Youlden. Continuous cold E.wind bad for shipping; great privations; London coaster under Muggridge lost in the Downs, probably with all hands; wreckage at Deal. J.S. planned to take the children to school following Monday, possible delay. Hoped to spend a day at Franklyn.

C.H.leaving Bath so letter directed to Trist's. Bad weather that week had stopped work on hedges, but workmen were now busy & the mason about the pillars. Cocks sent to Totnes as Creed thought the worst ought to go. Elm trees blown down. Southcote was to set out for Town 3 March. Mrs. Wood's affairs made up. Mr. Seale leaving Town that week; he enquired of C.H. C.H. to ask Trist about M.H's dyed petticoats. Dolly sent love. Creed had nothing to add.

J.H.S. too busy at school to write before. The organ in the wood, pretty effect. J.H.S. been on the water several times. Father building fortifications in the wood. J.H.S. drank tea on a Vessel, danced till 11 pm, large company; many plays: Mother always reading his sister's letters. Measles in Dartmouth. Little brother cutting his teeth.
