Thanks for letter. No partiality over good report of J.H.S, his very retentive memory. J.H.S. says would soon write to the family especially to Harriet. ''Hooks & Lines'' are the main preoccupation at Dartmouth with the din of hammers, the howling of sailors instead of music. W.G. new lodging on the Foss. Expecting a pupil from Maidenhead area. 2 little ones sent to Kittery.

Lupton sold. Previous meeting too unexpected for JS to comment. In his will CH's father's wishes were that the estate should go to CH's sisters if he had no children. CH had extricated himself from every embarrassment. JS requested that the remainder of the estate be amply & securely settled according to the intention of the will.

Dyer came about bed, refused to dye it yellow, too shabby so green instead; price not less than 2 guineas as there is so much silk. SS's instructions needed. Thanks for invitations to Mt. Boon.

Very bad Storm previous Saturday night. Mrs. S. up in the night, fear of another chimney falling. No damage except to roof. Wind cleared up, glass rising, hope of better weather. JS in favour of altering road from Halwell Cross to Kingsbridge. Mrs Young much against it. It would cut through Miss Cowells property. She must be consulted. Sir T.C. would have no objection. Cutting through estate causes real loss to owners.
