R.Penny & Pearce were working on CH's rooms; plaster bad. Box not yet arrived. Kingdom had not sent stoves. The new Cook. Thomas said to be settling at Brixham Quay; his visit to London and possible partnership with Dotting. Oldrieve's cock fight postponed till after the races. MH asked for cap with ribbons & a dress handkerchief. Governor very weak, Major Taylor reported to be next Governor, & Mr. Bastard the M.P. Mr. Southcote talked of going to the music party in his yacht. If CH came down with Sir. Fred'k Rogers it would be the Ivybridge Races.

Mr.F. gone to St. Sidwells for Sessions. Capt.F. continuing as Mayor of Plymouth. A.M.S. forwarding clothes, toothbrush etc. left by J.S.. Concern about his health. Valerian tea & horse-riding good. J.S. too sedentary. A.M.S. ordering things for dinner party.

Master Popham, en route to Saltram, enquired about J.S.; he was told J.S. had offered himself for Dartmouth. Electors previously engaged for Mr. Bastard. Appointment of Col.Hardy in return for seat being filled without consulting people concerned. County Sessions irksome. C.F. soon to quit them. Thanks for sea-water. John F. had complaints in his side. C.F. intended to take him to London to see Dr. Warren.

Offer of cottage in wood to Wills the 2nd Bailiff; J.S had no intention of luring him away from C.F. Cuttings of Sir F.Drake's willows required, also Lombardy poplar cuttings. Request for A.M.S. to order horses to go to Mr. Beague jun'r at Dulverton on Monday 22nd October to fetch a load of beech plants.
