Mother very unhappy, all uneasy since return, at no news from JS. Grant had heard. Mr. Lister staying a week longer. Letter from JHS asking that the one sent on by EMS already to JS be not sent. EMS would transcribe the letter from Hammersley. Hope that JS would visit the Carterets with EMS & HAS instead of going to Jersey. TL said packets from Weymouth to Jersey were frequent. Grant sending remittance due to Pawley.

SS was prepared for the contents of JS's letter. She would not add to the unpleasant feeling about JS's comment. She had been a stranger to his schemes. Family well in health, low in spirits. Little boys came from Kingsbridge that Wednesday, brought by Jeffrey in the gig.

HAS presumed Mr. Adams had told JS about the unpleasant situation they had been in JS apparently Exeter the following day. She begged JS to write to poor Full, in a miserable state, stung to the heart by JS at loss of his stewardship. His last letter had been ignored by JS. JS was not to speak of arbitration. EMS very unwell with fatigue & fright. Mr. Lister in Bodmin expected 20 Sept,

Impossible to clear up the mystery of EMS's letter to Mr. Fanshawe till she saw JS. It concerned Morice & Mr. Full. Morice transacted the business when Mr. Full broke his leg. Tom Full got Morice away saying he was a dangerous man. SS was not to say why he was discharged except the affair of Kitty. JS had declared Mr. Full was honest. Thousands of pounds unaccounted for in the accounts. Full gave account of his life & stewardship to EMS & HAS. JS should keep this secret.

Thanks for letter, glad the family were well. Shaked at JS's embarrassment about his affairs. Mr. Fanshawe though at times displeased, was also much concerned. How could Mr. Pincent have been so base to Mr. Seale after all the civilities from Mt. Boone?

Sorry an affair of treachery & deceit should have caused so much concern to JS's friends and difficulty to himself. Good that he could distinguish his friends from a parcel of sycophant rascals. Hope of reconcilling JS to those sometimes at variance. Thanks to Mr. Fanshawe. JS in Exter following Friday.

Letters from Lord Ribblesdale to T.Lister JS had brought from Franklin recommends Mr. Oddie to advise TL. JS did not know Mr. O and thought Mr. Jones in his night cap equally qualified. JS agreed that the £2000 to be paid TL should carry interest from his marriage etc. Letter from Col.Elliot; TL was to go to his regiment before going to Staffordshire. TL would find the letter on returning from Cornwall. Rain, rain, rain, JS would swim to Stoke Cliff. A kiss to Harriet.

Congratulations & good wishes for a happy marriage to TL & Harriet. Hopes to see them in Hampshire. TL's friendship proved in regard to Augustus. She complained about her brother having lent him money relying on him repaying part at Christmas. Could TL pay her £100 to be repaid with interest in instalments? She would go to London in the Spring to dispose of property. Health not equal to the journey.

JS had mistaken Kerwan's letter. JHS wrongfully accused. Very busy. Captain of the week, drill 9.30 - 1.00 then inspecting barracks, hospitals, men's dinners, cook rooms etc. dress parade, reports etc. Kerwan was to arrange JHS's accounts only not due to be settled til 24 Dec. Not played German flute for a month good opportunity for learning languages, foreign travel. JHS liked Col.Fisher though very strict: Col. Hull not a gentleman? Next destination Ireland. Any news of Harley?

EMK's Greenhouse flourishing, fruit on one orange-tree. Last of her pigs sold. Jeffrey famous for bargains. Uncle expected at Fuge. Pianforte & music sent to EMK. Had it arrived? Cooke seen drunk in Dublin theatre. Brothers played 3 handed whist with Will Woocot. No reply from Father.

Glad Father was reconciled with EMK. Mistake to think JHS was learning the violoncella. Mr. Churchill was to have got one but had heard nothing more so damping musical ardour. Glad SS went to the opera. The Ilberts would tell of the Ball at Tor Abbey. All the County there the Cliffords & Courterays & 120 at supper. There would be a masquerade that night but JHS had no dress so would not go. Love & congratulations to both sisters.

Glad SS arrived safely at Belmont. EMK believed she was in the family way, no troubles except sickness. Dining in Charlotte Street that day. Harriet poorly previous Saturday, the child had been very unwell but now better, had tea with the Fownes's. Mrs & Miss Ilbert were leaving soon. EMK's gown from SS was admired. Miss Mervin had just been after her bilious attack? Mrs. Fownes was soon to come with Mr. Luttrel, while the girls stayed with father.

The Baby improved daily, cried very little, slept at 7pm regularly & woke about 5am. The nurse took him up to suckle him the last thing before she went to bed about 10pm. He hardly slept in the day. Harriet's cold better. Mr.L.had just gone to Lichfield. Sister expected for dinner she had a bowel complaint Mrs. Mervin's recipe made her better. Miss Rolle & Frerick Rogers had both called. Mrs. Fownes at Islington was on her way. Sorry to hear Aunt looked unwell.
